Bassoon

News Report - Basson Woodwind Instruments, Beautiful, Rick Fox

Rossini's Overture to the Barber of Seville, Mozart's Concerto for Bassoon, Kol Nidrei for Cello Solo (a Jewish prayer) by Max Bruch, Franz Schubert's Symphony no. 8 (Unfinished), and selections from Tchaikovsky's Nutcracker ballet will be among the familiar favorites on the program.[Keene State College]

Russell Platt's new Concerto for Bassoon and Strings is a lock to become a standard work for bassoonists aspiring to more than sideman status in classical music.[Milwaukee Journal Sentinel]

The Grand Concerto for Bassoon and Orchestra is an earlier work - written it is thought between 1805 and 1811 - and published only in 1957. Pavel Langpaul makes some rich chocolatey sounds with his instrument and his legato playing in the Romanza is delightful; the concluding rondo is huge fun.[Audiophile Audition]

As principal bassoonist for Johnstown Symphony Orchestra, Michael F. Kokus is in the spotlight at every concert.[The Tribune-Democrat]
