According to FOX Pop Tarts’ Hollie McKay, the whole Paris Hilton and Benji Madden breakup may have had something to do with the fact that Paris has been getting chummy with British Royal Prince William, and that Will is set to spend New Year’s Eve down under in Australia at a party hosted by Miss Hilton.

Paris Hilton is not only looking for a new BFF, she's looking for a new man. The socialite has reportedly split from Benji Madden, her boyfriend of nine months.

According to an inside source, the ultra-quiet Benji can be well, kind of controlling, which apparently played a significant role in his split from former fiancée Sophie Monk. And given Paris’s perennial partying lifestyle and love of the nightlife, things just weren’t smooth sailing.

Paris Hilton and Benji Madden called it quits Tuesday after nine months of dating, a rep for Hilton confirms exclusively to Usmagazine.com.

The reason for the split?
“Benji was overprotective and controlling. He doesn’t get along with any of her friends,” the source tells Us. “Friends thought Paris had changed since being with Benji and she wants to be herself again.”
