LIRR

News Report - LIRR Delays, LIRR Train schedule, LIRR Derailment, Long Island Railroad

12 LIRR trains to be canceled for Monday morning
A Long Island Rail Road train derailment that caused major damage to rails and switches at Jamaica Station yesterday will disrupt the morning rush hour, prompting 12 morning westbound train cancellations as crews scramble to make repairs at the railroad's largest hub, railroad spokesman Joe Calderone said.[Newsday]

One more reason Long Islanders are lucky to live in the orbit of Manhattan: The chance to hop the LIRR to the city for the 82nd annual Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade.[Newsday]

LIRR Delays, Cancelled Trains After Derailment
LIRR Riders Council chairman Gerry Bringmann said, "Thank God this happened on a weekend. The fact that we have two [accidents] within four or five days - that's scary stuff," referring to the Wednesday incident where two LIRR trains bumped at Jamaica Station. The MTA says yesterday's derailment is being investigated but it's "not related to the train sideswipe that occurred in Jamaica on November 19."[Gothamist]

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority's doomsday budget would delay completion of the Long Island Rail Road's efforts to fix dangerous gaps between platforms and train cars by as much as two years by cutting the number of workers on the project, LIRR officials said Friday.[Newsday]
